Hot Property

CENTRAL Albury has become a real estate hot spot with one agent confirming four sales of more than $1 million in recent months with the latest being a three-bedroom home in Englehardt Street.

It was sold at auction by Chapman, Gould & May for $1.005 million with the agent also selling another home at the weekend in Perry Street which was initially passed in at auction for $555,000.

A luxury home in Forrest Hill fetched $1.2 million.

The results have come ahead of the traditional spring selling season with a string of auctions of central Albury homes scheduled in August by multiple agents.

“Good properties are doing well,” agent Graeme Gould said.

“People are starting to realise how lucky we are to be living in Albury-Wodonga. “It’s such a good area and close to everything.

“You are not putting up with the hustle and bustle of traffic people living in Melbourne and Sydney encounter every day.

“What is happening with real estate in the capital cities is not happening here where the market is reasonably buoyant.

“We don’t have those huge spikes, but people will miss out if they want to play games.”

Meanwhile, a Baker Court property presently leased to urologist, Jonathan Lewin, sold at auction last Friday for $520,000 to a Griffith-based investor.

The successful auction was conducted by L.J Colquhoun Dixon.

“We had two parties who had shown interest,” agent Simon Reid said.

“It is purely an investment opportunity for the successful purchaser.

“They had recently missed out on another similar opportunity in another location so they were eager to get this one over the line.

“Investors these days don’t just look in their own backyard.”

Albury Council has lodged an expression of interest for 26 hectares of land to the east of the airport in Elizabeth Mitchell Drive.
